This week I worked on a project, where I used a 3d printer to make a print block, which I then used to print a template for a paper star. The whole project was somewhat inspired by this instagram reel.
Part 1: 3d printing
First, I prepared the digital design for the paper star template with a drawing program on a tablet, and then converted it to a path with inkscape. To make the 3d file I used tinkercad, and the file was then printed with the 3d printer. The filament that I used for the print is a TPU, a flexible plastic, which gives nice printing block properties. The .stl file for the 3d model is uploaded here on git (CC BY-NC).
Part 2: paper printing
With the finished print block, I could take my inkpad and use the block as a big stamp to print the template on paper. I also taped the print block to my work surface to make it easier to use.
With the templates for the star segments printed, it was just a matter of cutting, folding and gluing to create the paper star. :) At the end I added a ribbon to close it.
Finished star
And this is how it turned out. I really like the design and the printing process is a lot of fun. I also tried different color combinations and two different sizes so far.
